Facebook for Business | Episode 17

Many companies may be hesitant about using Facebook as a business tool due to the largely personal content that pervades this giant social media entity. Its difficult to ignore, however, that Facebook users number in the hundreds of millions and grows at a rate of about 800,000 new users every single day. Additionally, Facebook seems to welcome the business community by making access to users for commercial purposes a bit "kinder and gentler."
In this podcast episode, I will take excerpts from Jason Levy's book, "Facebook for Business" to make a case for establishing a company presence on the "second most used search engine" in the world - Facebook. I will also go through the basic steps for establishing a Facebook Page, the evolution from the old Fan Pages.
Finally, there is a PDF copy of the presentation for this episode in the Membership Area. By the way, the presentation document contains a special section not contained in the podcast, that provides instructions on utilizing a powerful new tool - Facebook Ads. AdSense Basics Part 1 | Episode 10
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Veteran Internet entrepreneur, Mick Moore of killergraffix.com gave us a great presentation on Google AdSense at our recent MeetUp here in San Diego CA. As expected, Mick wow'd the audience with his insight, and his pragmatic approach to the topic of making money online.
The biggest take-away I got, and that I hope the attendees understood, was there's no such thing as a "magic bullet" when it comes to making money online with AdSense or anything else. Realistically, if you can generate a few hundred dollars per month on AdSense as a supplement to your regular online business, then you're doing better than most. AdSense, on its own, would require massive effort to generate substantial income - Mick gave us an example of an extremely successful entrepreneur making "millions" with AdSense, but he does it with a voluminous number of websites that most of us would be unwilling or unable to manage.
I've personally not used AdSense on my regular sites, simply because I want my targeted visitors to stay on my site as long as possible. Clicking an AdSense ad on one of my sites, would take them away to another site. Sure, I would get a few cents from Google, but I've lost a potential client.
To learn more about AdSense, Mick recommended reading Joel Comm's book about AdSense. According to Mick, although its a few years old, much of the information is still valid. Finally, a copy of Mick's PowerPoint presentation (in PPS format) is contained in the Members Area, so if you don't have free access yet, go ahead and sign up. The short form is on the top right corner of the home page.
